New City Parks Announces 2025 Stewardship Mini Grant Awardees in Poughkeepsie
Enlivening Northside Parks with Events, Sports, Art and More
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 15, 2025) - New City Parks (NCP) has selected seven community-based organizations in the City of Poughkeepsie as recipients of its summer Stewardship Mini Grants.
Initiated in 2024 following the renovation and reopening of Pershing Ave and Malcolm X Parks, these grants empower local organizations to offer structured programming to engage the community – inviting residents to enjoy their new open spaces.
“Last year’s grant program was a great success, funding 33 activities and bringing over 800 people into their parks,” said Chanda Bennett, NCP’s Programs & Partnership Director. “With summer right around the corner, NCP is proud to fund seven incredible organizations—a dynamic mix of returning partners and new collaborators—who will bring eight inspiring projects to life in Pershing Ave Park and Malcolm X Park.”
This year's recipients are: Saving Our Tomorrow, The Art Effect, The Love Quest Foundation, Crazy Over Art On Tour, NY Flight 845’s Kingdom Classic, The Brain and Body Coalition, and Arm of the Sea Theater. With activities ranging from basketball clinics to artistic performances, mental health awareness workshops to intergenerational events, the funded projects aim to strengthen the connection between the community and their parks.
NCP executive director and founder Rose Harvey said, “We are thrilled to see how each project will contribute to our ongoing efforts to make these parks vibrant, welcoming spaces for all.”
Chanda added, “This summer is shaping up to be one of creativity, connection, and community-building in Pershing Ave Park and Malcolm X Park.”
The New City Parks Mini-Grant Program has been made possible thanks to the Dyson Foundation.
Pershing Ave Park and Malcolm X Parks were revitalized in partnership with the City of Poughkeepsie and funding partner Scenic Hudson.
