New City Parks and New Jersey Community Development Corporation partner on the creation of the Westside Park Conservancy

Paterson, NJ (May 19, 2026)- The multi-year renovation project of Paterson, NJ’s 27-acre Westside Park, a partnership between the City of Paterson, New Jersey Community Development Corporation (NJCDC), and New City Parks (NCP), is nearing completion of its first phase of construction. In anticipation of the park’s re-opening, NCP and NJCDC are collaborating on the creation of a Westside Park Conservancy to support the park’s long-term stewardship and success.

The historic park is undergoing an ambitious refurbishment aimed at enhancing its recreational facilities, improving accessibility, and creating vibrant community gathering spaces. Some of the highlights of the project include a cricket pitch, boat launch, and new river walk, in addition to 265 new trees.

Ensuring maintenance of the completed park is a high priority and planning is underway now. NCP is partnering with NJCDC on creating a new Conservancy to oversee maintenance and programming for years to come. As the park enters a new chapter following significant reinvestment there is a unique opportunity to keep it active, welcoming, and well cared for over time. The Westside Park Conservancy will build that momentum by bringing people, resources, and community partnerships together to support the park’s ongoing life.

“The goal isn’t just to reopen the park — it’s to help it thrive for years to come,” said Dr. Chanda Bennett, Programs & Partnership Director of New City Parks and Executive Director of the Westside Park Conservancy.

In 2026, as part of the Conservancy’s initial planning, NCP is providing staffing and seed funding, developing a park maintenance plan, and planning community programming and engagement.

The Westside Park Conservancy is expected to launch officially this fall with the reopening of the renovated park.
