Meet NCP’s New Board Member!

We are honored to welcome Elizabeth Goldstein to the New City Parks Board of Directors. We interviewed her to find out more about her background and what excites her about joining the board!

Why New City Parks? What drew you to our mission?

I have been working in parks and park adjacent fields for most of my professional life. I have always felt that parks are one of our last truly democratic civic spaces, where everyone is welcome. I was moved by the principles behind New City Parks, that everyone deserves great parks, even if you are living in a small city with very few resources.

What skills/insights are you excited to bring to NCP?

I look forward to bringing my park-partnership expertise to NCP!

What aspect(s) of our work do you find most inspiring?

I am inspired by the willingness to dig in to park building where the need is great and resources are thin.

Is there an NCP project or program that you are most looking forward to?

I look forward to helping think through the stewardship of parks after construction.

On a personal level, what is your favorite park?

I am blessed to have a wide variety of amazing parks experience in New York City, New York State, San Francisco and California. I have loved the opportunities for fun, learning and exploration of many. But one of my deepest connections to parks was made in London when I was a student there. I was sitting in St. James Park at dusk in the fall watching the birds settle into the trees for the night. I thought what an amazing refuge for humans and wildlife alike. The tranquility and safety was moving. I didn't know it but I was hooked.
