Special Features
Trail and path connections to downtown Hudson and adjacent natural resources

Located at the foot of a quiet residential street just outside the City of Hudson’s increasingly bustling downtown, Charles Williams Park is underdeveloped, uninviting, and outdated. Currently, the only amenities are tired play equipment and an unused shade pavilion. However, at over 12-acres adjacent to 300-acre Greenport Preserve and trail networks, the park has tremendous potential to serve as a vibrant and dynamic community space that benefits the entire city and region.

NCP recently joined the city and its partners to advance the revitalization effort and make Charles Williams Park a destination park. The proposed site plan includes a basketball court, pickleball courts, adult fitness, exploratory nature-based play area, splash pad area, picnic areas, a bathroom, and flexible open spaces for community gatherings. The park plan also includes green infrastructure to infiltrate stormwater and improve drainage.

The park will also serve as a critical hub for proposed local bike and pedestrian trails, connecting downtown to the riverfront, Oakdale Park (which is also being refurbished) and, most importantly, New York State’s Empire State Trail. Ultimately, plans include the creation of a new hiking trail network between Hudson and into the Greenport Conservation Area.

Revitalizing Charles Williams Park will create walkable access to outdoor recreation and nature that is sorely lacking.
