Sean Moriarty
Interim General Counsel
Sean Moriarty is the former Deputy Commissioner and General Counsel of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) where he lead a multidisciplinary team of attorneys, scientists, engineers, and policy professionals across virtually every major environmental issue confronting New Jersey. Prior to being Deputy Commissioner, Sean spent nearly a decade working in various roles providing legal and policy guidance to NJDEP's Green Acres Program where he served as primary architect of NJ’s Environmental Justice Law and guided its implementation. He also spearheaded NJ’s acquisition of the Essex-Hudson Greenway. Since leaving government, Sean has broadened his perspective through private practice, public affairs consulting, and academia. He is the founder of Avenger Consulting, LLC, through which he provides strategic counsel to NGOs, environmental justice organizations, state and local governments, industry associations, and regulated entities navigating complex environmental challenges.
He holds a J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law and a B.S. in Management Science from Rutgers University.
