Meet NCP’s Newest Board Member!
We are honored to welcome Myung Lee to the New City Parks Board of Directors. We interviewed her to find out more about her background and what excites her about joining the board!
Why New City Parks?
Public spaces are critical infrastructure that build community, and in NYC, where most of us live in apartments without outdoor space, parks become our backyards, our playgrounds, our barbecue spaces, and our social centers. I was drawn to New City Parks' commitment to bringing vibrant, accessible green spaces to under resourced communities where those shared spaces are not available.
What skills/insights you are excited to bring to NCP?
I am excited to bring my experience across the public, private and philanthropic sectors to help attract additional resources and partnerships that allow NCP to reach as many communities as possible.
What aspect(s) of our work do you find most inspiring?
I especially appreciate how New City Parks works alongside city and community leaders to develop parks - from design to site selection to securing funding. That partnership model adds lasting capacity to communities and ensures parks reflect the people they serve.
Is there an NCP project or program that you are most looking forward to?
Not yet - but I'm looking forward to getting to know the portfolio and having a few favorites soon!
On a personal level, what is your favorite park?
I have wonderful memories of winter days in Prospect Park, when hundreds of families would gather with sleds and there was joy and community everywhere you looked. More recently, I've been spending time at the Harriet Tubman Triangle in Harlem, a tiny, landscaped park with a statute of Harriet Tubman, where my dog Pippin insists that we stop and sit to watch the world go by.
